Direct conflict when one indicates that something is true and the other is false. If one piece is strong than the other then it overrides the second. It conflicts with evidence from a reliable source. It directly conflicts with what we have good reason to believe. Indirect conflict when one indicates that other is not possible. If the first is stronger than the other, than it undermines the second. You have to state which condition the testimony does not meet. Advertising and news reports are special cases of testimony. Some reporters are not trained experts on the topics. Reporters are informed by sources, and sources can be anonymous. Evidence from a survey is acceptable when: There is no researcher or subject bias. Appeal to ignorance - believing something because there is no evidence that it is false. Unacceptable testimony - accepting a testimony from an uninformed, biased, untrained witness.
