Critical thinking is reasonable and reflective thinking aimed at deciding what to believe and what to do . Figuring out what the world is like. Figuring out what to eat for lunch. Figuring out what is true (which is the focus of this course) Thinking of both the theoretical and the practical. It requires that we have reasons for our beliefs and/or actions. It uses methods, strategies, and rules to help us determine what is true. We have to ask ourselves if we are using the right method as critical thinking is higher level thinking rather than mechanical. Critical thinking can help us to attain knowledge. When trying to figure something out, what we really want is to know. What it means to know something: knowledge is justified, true belief. We want to know the cause of global warming. Although, if you do not have all three, you do not truly know.
