We also assume a belief is most likely true if there are good reasons to accept it. Critical thinking : is the systematic evaluation or formulation of beliefs or statements, but rational standards. It"s systematic because it involves distinct procedures and methods (not just gut feelings) Its used to evaluate existing beliefs and formulate new ones. Evaluates beliefs in terms of how well they are supported by terms. Ultimately, it leads to knowledge, understanding and empowerment. Because who we are is in large part determined by our actions and choices. And our actions and choices are in turn determined by our thoughts and beliefs. If we don"t control our beliefs carefully, we"re giving up control. It is not about thinking outside the box. Rejecting biases, stereotypes, and other unreasonable assumptions.
