Contemporary media analysis suggests the main commodity in the media is us . Approximately: 1/3 of any given tv show time is made up of commercial breaks. Functionalist view of education: all humans who grow up in the majority of societies have to go through this institution ubiquity. Late 19th century: key ideas in early education themselves. Keep children occupied and out of trouble. Functionalist (order theory): helps social cohesion, it works better this way. Functionalism: lets maintain status quo, keep people organized, running things smoothly. We don"t start at the same conditions but we are assessed the same in terms of merit, merit system (hierarchy system) just like a capitalist system (some are well off, some are struggling for resources) Research shows: strong consistent correlation between education levels and wealth. Notice level of education is very high correspondence to wealth.
