Nurturing is important in order to raise a healthy human. Animal studies show that raising their offspring in isolation causes them to be maladapted for adulted life. Similarly, humans that have had not had proper nurturing also become maladapted. Children locked in up a dark room for long periods of time without love and care. This clearly shows that we are not just the products of biology. Socialization involves not only learning about others. Socialization also involves de(cid:448)elopi(cid:374)g a se(cid:374)se of the (cid:862)self(cid:863) Allows us to differentiate ourselves from others. Newborn unable to differentiate itself from mother. One way the self is developed is that it adopts to how others see us. Cooley believes each of us is like a mirror. When we interact with other people we see how people react to us.
