We interact with others, and live in groups performing social roles; producion, exchange, educaion, consumpion. Social groups can be small (like our class) or large (canada) Small groups tend to engage in direct, face-to-face interacion. Insituions such as government, media, educaion, adverising mediate between the members of larger groups and brings us together. We recognize that our personal experiences are afected by our class, ethnicity, gender, age, and orientaion. Sociological research enables us to discuss social issues in an informed and criical manner. Sociology studies how the social world operates and interrogates the structures and insituions inluencing its operaion. Sociology is a social science: it shares common interests with other social sciences; psych, etc, how ever it does disinguish itself from other disciplines through history, science etc. Sociology looks for (and at) social paterns in social interacions and social insituions: wright mills" sociological imaginaion draws connecions between how society works and our personal lives.
