SOC 483 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Scatter Plot, Statistical Significance, Interval Ratio
Document Summary
Overview: correlation coefficient, scatterplots and the best fitting line, bivariate regression equation, prediction and error, interpreting regression output, in this video we are going to talk about bivariate relationships when both variables are interval ratio variables. When you have two variables and want to analyze the relationship between them (both those variables are continuous or interval ratio variables) many ways to do so. Nominal = attributes are only names" weakest: correlation coefficient, when you are analyzing a bivariate relationship, there are three things you can look at (presence, strength and direction) Tells us if there is a relationship. Can do this with a cross tab, means comparison or a correlation coefficient. Check is there is a statistical significance if you"re using sample data: strength. So in a cross tab, you might look at the magnitude of the differences between the percentages across categories of the independent variables.
