What is crime: reflection of social customs and beliefs, defined by the elite. We dictate on what is right or wrong: focused on the socially powerless. Why engage in crime: opportunities to work, earnings, punishments, desperation when is crime like work steady time commitment, drug dealing. Alternate to legal work: main source of income prostitution job types laws are made to assert power over these workers (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Why: lower tier service work, semi skilled work, last resort, easy and profitable, coercion/ deceit illegal migrants. Once your in its hard to get out: emotion labour. Because emotional work is demanding but not valued: physical requirements, violence, health and safety concerns long debate of whether to legalize prostitution or not occupational crime job type, legal, white-collar (good or bad) Who: financial gain, wide variety, not only ceo. Examples: fraud, investment bankers impacts, not punished, not focused on by the justice system, approximately 20 billion/year societal costs.
