Humans create the meaning of gender (through performance, clothing, choices) Gender is sociological differences, social construct, the meaning we give to sex differences. Gender is a way of referring to the social differences. When babies are born doctors say girl/boy not male/female . If the purpose for human beings are to reproduce then infants do not have a purpose. There is no polite way of referring to someone in a gender neutral way. Gender is extremely important in our culture that that is how infants are first defined. We assume there is a natural connection between what we perceive to be physically important and what we make to be culturally important. Sex differences are the things that differentiate males and females. Intersex people may not fit into either the male or female category. Caster semenya: olympian runner whose gender was controversial. Our culture has taught individuals to treat genders certain ways and expect to be treated in a certain way.
