Cultural relativism: the perspective that cultural practices have to be understood within their own terms. To stop female genital mutilation (fgm) is to impose your own cultural values = racism. Human rights something that cannot be given or taken away. If endangered, we must act in their defence. Ww2 german soldiers had the moral obligation to speak up and act in defence of the powerless (regardless of commands) Reasonable accommodation debate: visible religious item (eg kirpan, hijab, cross, etc) In western world was for women who masturbated and had a lack of morals . Pathologized of women"s sexuality: diagnosis of women"s sexuality is that it is harmful to her, the treatment is clitoraldectomy. Often practiced in africa and middle east as right of passage. Women who do not go under fgm are seen as unmarriageable and potentially harmful to social order. Women perform these procedures as well as enforce them.
