Social policy and social services (health, educaion, social) Ife (1997) proposed six main characterisics that deine social work: social work provides services, located primarily w/i the context of the welfare state w/i social service sector. 5: involves the integraion of knowledge, skills and values . A set of poliical beliefs, values, and pracices that valorize the private market, economic raionalism, and individual rather than collecive, responsibility for social and individual ills (khor, 2001; cited in baines, 2010). It seeks to dismantle or discredit processes, values, and beliefs emphasizing collecive and state responses to issues of social security and to restructure the insituions and pracices to relects its own value base (baines, 2010, p. 12) Neoliberalism has changed and impacted upon how we conduct service delivery and the nature of social work as a profession. Neo/liberalism = market & families retain key role for care, supported by minimal state support. Neo/liberalism = individualism, heteronormaive breadwinner, primacy of capitalist goals.
