Social policies can & must be used to encourage people in the community to come together. Policy shit towards community as a resource in solving problems: 7. 5 million volunteers giving 2 billion hours annually. Range from research hospitals with million budgets to small iniiaives with ,000 budget. Rely on volunteer and under paid" individuals to operate and funcion. Some people think this is the only aspect of community capacity and social capital the voluntary sector or volunteerism no need more, but let"s consider the current contact/size/scope and reach of what is already funded. Both community success (the many people who are personally and poliically connected to supporing their neighbours or giving back) and also clear evidence of the government shirking its responsibiliies to provide comprehensive public support/safety net. Not just vs - but public/governmental, business, faith, foundaions, neighbourhood, individual, etc. Creaing, expanding, and relying on community capacity has become primary direcion in social policy (funding & goals)
