Athenians liked to write things down, they like to build things, they were one of the more successful greek city- states. Slavery was similar in athens as it was to thieves. Everything we known is filtered through athenians one way or another, we can see some common greek culture although things would have differed from city-state to city-state. Competition in general was something that the greeks loved to do. Myth was important because these plays were about the myths. Drinking games, telling stories, all was a competition.
