Values- the ideals or the generally accepted standards of behaviour. Informal rules that govern the behaviours of a society. They direct, regulate and control human behaviour. They help in satisfying our social needs. They act as measuring scale to evaluate social behaviour. Commitment to freedom, peace and non-violent change. Ex) marriage is a value, monogamy is a social norm. Dominant culture - is the one that through its political and economic power is able to impose its values,language, and ways of behaving and interpreting behaviour in a given society. Subculture - distinctive culture that exists within the larger societal culture. Subcultural groups have distinctive values, norms, language, or symbols they use to express their membership to the subculture. It might based on race, ethnicity, religion, age, sexuality etc.
