Atp produced by cellular respiration is used for cellular work, growth, biosynthesis, repair. All these processes are inefficient: ~60% of total energy in any food is converted to atp a(cid:374)d 40% is (cid:862)lost(cid:863) as heat. Others - many vitamins (c, d) - unsaturated, fatty acids (18:2) - many minerals. Too much of a good thing: overdosing on essential nutrients. Achieved through high supplement intake and not from dietary sources. Vitamin d overdose can result in: dehydration, vomiting, decreased appetite, irritability, constipation, fatigue, muscle weakness. Four main feeding mechanisms have evolved among animals (fig.
