Ecosystem: energy flux and cycling of nutrients. Population: population dynamics; the unit of evolution. A spatially explicit unit of the eartpthah that includes all of the organisms, along with all components of the abiotic environment within its boundaries likens. The study of natural systems from the standpoint of the flow of energy and the cycling of matter . Salmon conveyer belt of phosphorous, nitrogen, carbon and nutrients being deposited in streams and rivers. Nutrients coming from the ocean going to streams and rivers tmhen to people who rely on that nutrients: what types of questions do ecosystem ecologists ask?, where do humans fit in? (see b above) Humans are an important part of ecosystem ecology. How do we study ecosystems: mass balance (see animation).
