What are the weaknesses and strengths of maslow"s hierarchy of needs. Not much research done to confirm it. You don"t need to achieve things in that order. None of these mechanisms actually solve the issues you are facing at hand. You have to move on from these mechanisms and actually look for ways to solve the problems. A mental strategy we use to protect us and provide us relief from situations that cause us problems. Daydreaming - allows us to brainstorm solutions to problem solve. Eg. remembering an abusive parent as loving and kind. An individual choosing to not practice safe sex bc they believe they aren"t at risk. Suppressing feelings can lead to guilt, depression. Use anger as information on how we are feeling and reacting to something. Temporary distraction/step back when we recognize that we are overwhelmed by an emotion. Avoid blame, take responsibility for your feelings and emotions. Activates the immune system, inflammatory response system.
