BPK 140 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Cellular Respiration, Cardiorespiratory Fitness, Stretching
Document Summary
Physical activity all leisure and non-leisure body movement produced by the skeletal muscles and resulting in an increase in energy expenditure. Exercise- planned, structured, repetitive physical activity aimed at improving physical fitness. Sport- a form of leisure-time physical activity that is planned, structured, and competitive. Active living- a way of life in which physical activity is valued and integrated into daily living. The ability to respond to routine physical demands with enough reserve energy to cope with a sudden challenge. Protection from obesity (lowers body fat, reduces weight) Protection against cardio vascular disease (stronger heart muscle, effective blood pumping, lowered hypertension, reduced blood clotting, increased hdl, decreased hr) Protection against certain cancer (colon, breast, endometrial) Age 12-17 should accumulate 60 min of moderate to intense physical activity daily. Vigorous intense activities 3 times per week. Exercises that strengthen the bone at least 3 time per week. More daily physical activity provides greater heat benefits.
