Document Summary
Feb 2 notes muscular strength & biomechanics. Muscular strength: greatest amt of force that muscles produce in a single maximum effort. Power = work / time = (force x distance) / time = force x (distance / time) = force x velocity. Physical fitness: ability to carry out daily tasks with vigour and alertness w/o undue fatigue. Dynamic (isotonic) contraction: bony levers move through range of motion when appropriate muscles perform work. Dynamic constant external resistance (dcer): where the external resistance stays constant. Concentric contraction: muscle shortens with varying tension as it lifts constant load. Eccentric contraction: muscle lengthens while developing force: these contractions usually used for resisting gravity, one drawback of eccentric training creates more muscle soreness (delayed onset muscular soreness doms) Isometric contraction: (static distance) where tension develops but angle of joint and muscle length do not change.
