BPK 342 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Tai Chi, Goniometer, Protractor
Document Summary
Sit-and-reach test: good for hamstring flexibility (girls, 13-15y; men & women, 20-45y), low-back flexibility (men, 20-45y); trunk/arm length relative to legs, excess fat in abdomen may affect score. Neuromotor exercise training (functional fitness training): incorporates balance, coordination, gait, agility, and proprioceptive training. Ex/ one-leg stance: tests balance, the only criterion measure to assess balance score. Additional protocols to assess musculoskeletal and neuromotor fitness. Very few flexibility tests have large databases and are valid. Static flexibility: range of motion (rom) at a joint; many lab and field tests to measure static flexibility. Rom: difference between the joint angles measured in degrees at extremes of the movement. Direct measures: measures joint angel using goniometer or modified protractor: reliable; needs accurate identification of the joint centre of rotation know anatomy. Indirect measures: most field tests; use linear measurements that relate to the true rom: ex/ sit-and-reach test quantitative, qualitative: ex/ shoulder rotation test.
