Project portfolio management process of selecting, prioritizing, and monitoring project results: critical for it departments facing many projects with few resources. Unreasonable demands by project sponsors/business managers make project management difficult. Critical to start project with a realistic assessment of the work and manage the project according to plan. Many it organizations tackle a number of important initiatives simultaneously. Collectively, these endeavors are man- aged as a program by the it steering committee. The steering committee must oversight entire set of projects that are undertaken by it organization. Individual projects accepted by steering committee are endeavors undertaken to create a unique product or service.
