Employees leave good bosses nearly as often as the bad ones: article says we shouldn"t provide developmental opps to employees. But rather, should be proactive set up programs for those employees: good leadership increases voluntary turnover b/c can"t take the spot of the current leader. Good leadership allows you to develop skills to be a leader for another org: if employees leave org, this can spread the good work about the org, partners w/org, etc. Turnover = termination of an indv"s employment w/an org. Managing turnover: voluntary turnover = decision made by employee. Presents a specific & immediate challenge or org success, voluntary turnover presents unanticipated hr challenges of replacing & retraining employees. Biggest challenge is the lack of managerial control. Must try to understand which types of employees are likely to leave & why. Helps manage & prevent dysfunctional or excessive turnover.
