Neil postman suggests that when we think about technology, we are inclined to ignore some of most fundamental technologies that have influenced world. If we think of technologies as mediators facilitating human labour, it is clear that inventions like alphabet are technologies. But invisible technologies remarkable precisely b/c operate below threshold of our awareness. Also important b/c give some evidence of manner in which technologies have been associated w/ cmn from antiquity. In a sense, one could argue that essence of human nature is contained in our capacity to transform labour power into some form of social activity. We use language in both spoken & written forms to communicate our ideas & to establish bonds constituting our communities.
