Both shannon and weaver were scientists and mathematicians, wrote one of the rst books on communication (the mathematical theory of communication: broke down the process into many parts. Sender has a thought (aka information source) Sender encodes thought into a message, transmits it through a channel: could be anything (at the time, it was likely wires, noise may be present during transmission. Receiver gets the message and decodes it: falls under the idea of information theory. One message sent to many receivers (in theory) March 28th, 1757 was the date of execution for robert francois damiens: tried to stab king louis xv, made no attempt to escape, was captured, tortured, and sentenced to death.
