The notion of mass media has changed- contrast between 100 years ago to now. Professional media-> casual people contributing to mass media. A meaningful exchange of information designs of buildings- style communicates a message what you decide to wear in the morning- communicates something technical: moory (2015) Means of physical communication transportation (roads, ships- from one play to another) railways and communication existed together, cables were alongside the railways. The social or market institution that enables communication to take place. More specifically, a tech. development (sound recording, photograph, telegraph) that extends the channels, range or speed of communication. What could happen if you can influence the masses. Internet ( to some degree- but it goes beyond mass media) From one (or few) to many (an audience of many different places) Go though technology (broadcast, to many people at different times) Who controls the media; what/why they are doing it. Those who talk about the media; try to understand/criticize.
