The two concepts are the ideas of expressiveness and the ideas of
impressions.

Expressiveness in the way an individual presents itself. Main form of
communication
Impression:
Gives: verbal symbols used to convey information
(narrow communication)
Gives off: wide range of actions that others can treat of symptomatic
of the actor (broad communication).
Tone, applied meaning is important to be understood.
How we make our decisions around our individuals. We hear others say
about individuals.
Whether or not their are stereotypes are acceptable in one culture and
not in others.
How do we understand different forms of communication.
Focus of goffman: the way behavior is presented. A time that we are
trying to determine: we focus on responses.
