Started with innovators in late 80s and 90s. Diffusion of big data technology; by data scientist (industries reshaped ex, genomics) Big data reshaped biotechnology and in return reshaped computer technology. Big data changed how science was done, (traditional way was to gather scientist ideas, data, prediction, then solve) Big data flipped science where we collected a lot of data then asked questions. Started w/ an interest in social/political economic industries. 1970s security guard in meat factory got interested in the blind spots of baseball. Collecting data goes back to 150 years in baseball (150 yr old database) Gained interest in things that wasn"t being recorded statistically before (bill james) Sports illustrated in 80s & 90s were the science of sports which lacked interest. 1990s billy beane gets off a losing season and began to social express the inequalities. Billy beane hired an economics major from yale, he stated there"s a large failure in baseball that was going on.
