Social network is two or more nodes that are connected, can be people, organizations or nations. 2 associations that recognize a similarity between each other that forms a social relationship. Late 1990"s scholars meet in sun belt conference, and their works get diffused to a number of areas. Allows many people to connect with many other people. Centralized network is one person connecting with many. Laws and codes in the past restricted certain networks from coming together; interracial marriages. Quality, quantity, ties, symmetry (expect support to be two ways, emotional support as an example), and multiplexity in networks. Networks provide opportunities and constraints. (families help people grow or shelter growth) Workarounds in networks, how to get around the ties. Raine and wellman think of our identification are the groups we"re affiliated with.
