Discipline of psychology is composed of several perspectives. Developmental psychology (pg. 169) social cognitivism (or social learning) Should not consider them as a single, unified discipline. Various branches of psychological theory are of relevance to criminology, including those that examine individual differences in personality traits. Aggression and impulsivity, and those examine conditioning, social learning, and psychological development. Early positivist argued that there was a connection between feeble-mindedness and criminality. One example would be henry goddard"s work on the kallikaks, two families fathered by the same man (p. 170) Children fathered with quaker wife were normal ; children fathered with barmaid wife were feeble-minded and prone to criminality. Led goddard to argue that feeblemindedness was inherited, and that feeble- mindedness (low iq) contributed to criminality. In 1977, hirschi and hindelang published a study entitled intelligence and delinquency: Reported on six studies on relationship between iq and delinquency. Concluded that iq was as least as important as race and social class in predicting delinquency.
