Party who feels wronged brings civil suit. Based on burden of proof: balance of probabilities. Results in an award of damages (ex monetary compensation) (griiths, 2011) Oj simpson case (he"s found not guilty in crim court, but found responsible in civil law) Most of the criminal laws in canada- murder, robbery, assault- were inherited from english common law.
