Prior to 1983, termed rape or indecent assault. Rape victims could be questioned concerning their past sexual experiences: rape shield law, marital rape is now recognized, police are not allowed to interrogate victims about past. Sexual assault is incidents of unwanted sexual activity, including sexual attacks and sexual touching. Level 1: any form of sexual activity (e. g. kissing, fondling, oral sex, vaginal or anal intercourse) forced on someone else resulting in minor physical injuries or no injuries to the victim. Level 2: sexual assault with a weapon, threats, or causing bodily harm. Level 3: sexual assault that results in wounding, maiming, disfiguring or endangering the life of the victim. Canada 2009 women self-reported 473,000 sexual assaults. Btwn 1999-2004 no reduction in rates of sexual assault in canada. Girls and young women btwn the ages of 15-24 are the most likely victims. In 2011 21,821 cases police reported: 97. 5% level 1, 1. 8% level 2, < 1% level 3.
