Individuals perception of the police officer and the police department. 97% of the time the police do not use any force. Empty hand compliance: clothing or body grasps, lever and joint manipulation, throws and takedowns, handcuffing and restraints. Aerosol irritants: oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) Empty hand compliance: the delivery of a traumatic blow first, knees, elbows, or feet. Deadly force: empty hand compliance, empty hand impact, impact weapons, resulting in death or grievous bodily harm. The police firearm: focus upon center mass: incapacitate the lethal threat, wounding is not an option, failure to stop shot shoot right between the eyes. Use of force as a (cid:498)last resort(cid:499) Provide for in: the criminal code (may arrest, practicality as it is impossible to enforce all laws, at all times, to all people, acknowledgement of (cid:498)rapid decision(cid:499) making. The officer must consider: safety issues, seriousness or incident, priority of the incident, their own perspective, must remain unbiased and impartial, consistent to all individuals.
