Designed to produce a closer connection between the police and community. Blue model of community policing: proactive. Community policing departed from the raw armed force public police of those in british military red uniform. Sir robert peel of 1892 established modern public policing in london with a blue uniform. Peel emphasized public police working in partnership with the community. Thin red line: two deep rather than four standing strategy, us against them, small number of uniformed police spread thinly against a large number of criminals. Now, community policing turns this on its head and places local police on the same side of society: thin blue line transformed to broad blue line. Community policing, community oriented policing, community based policing, neighborhood policing, problem oriented policing: all the same.
