Structured interviews create standardized responses so respondents are given same stimulus. Semi-structured interview schedules - have standardized questions but allows interviewer to explore themes emerging during interview. Provides most breadth, depth, natural interaction w/ participants. Purpose - elicit & understand range of opinions, experiences, hypotheses. Participants chosen for relevance to issue/representation of subgroups. In early stage of study to understand issues.
