Lecture 7: police use of force [most misunderstood. A defining, but rarely use feature of policing. One of the misunderstood powers granted to representatives of government (alpert & Heavily scrutinized, and subject to public debate and discourse. Use of force situations characterized by a rapidly evolving scenario, complex environment, and potentially high degree of fear. Sections 25-33 of the criminal code justification . Sections 26, 27, and 27 are provisions for the police use of force. The less experienced the officer, the more likely they will enact the use of force. May lack the recipes on action, experience, may not know how to de-escalate from a situation. Younger officers relying on academy trainings instead of in service trainings. Need to use force and the level of force often dictated by subject"s level of resistance. Showing potential for grievous bodily harm or death. Blunt force weapon, a larger person overpowering/fighting a person smaller than they are.
