Limitations of theories: elaborated only from clinical observations, small sample size, overrepresentation of serial or sadistic cases, consider only a limited number of factors. Comparative studies: prentky et al (1989, comparison between serial murders and non serial sexual murders, serial sexual murders more likely to present voyeurism, fetishism, transvestism. They show more paraphillas than non-sexual murders: deviant fantasies, with serial sexual murders more likely to have organized crime scene, shows control, not likely to find evidence, if weapon use not likely to leave at scene. 3 studies (compare between nonsexual homicidal offenders and sexual homicidal offenders: langevin et al. , (1988, milsom et al. , (2001, grubin (1994, demographics/development factors: Sexual murder are older, more social isolated, they will report more runaways, they show less prior conviction: psychological characteristics: Sexual murder show more anger, more voyeurism, more transvestism, more sadism: pre-crime factors: Focus on what is happening in the hours prior to the crime.
