Early ethnographers- objectivity imposed european world view. Focus- routine, daily lives of people and emerging patterns of thought and behaviour. Don"t focus on atypical behaviours or conversations. 2 developmental tracts: social anthropology, study the other , british colonialism approach, chicago school (sociology, observation used to explore groups on margins, focus on marginalized and the strange . Goal- to understand the phenomenology of the other . Process: how activities are organized ; beyond elements- how move/ interact. Socialization- how behaviour is shaped / punished/ rewarded.
