CRIM 321 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Social Fact, Data Analysis
Document Summary
Week 8 ca & data coding and analysis. Approaching the data: text & context in state of tension. Deine and redeine things as they"re doing diferent things. Look from muliple perspecives: explore muliple & conlicing voices, texts are social facts" produced, shared & used in socially organized way, be inducive & construcivist, permit theory (explanaion) to emerge, knowledge is created not discovered. How do we achieve this: reread test (notes) in diferent context, look for diferent meanings/contradicions. Diferent meanings are socially embedded: consider the interpreive factors that speak to context, producion & consumpion. Ca requires: systemaic yet lexible coding process. Credibility: permit new, equally well-deined concepts to emerge. Ethical consideraions: data must be free from fabricaions, fraudulent materials, omissions, & contrivances. You can"t just make it up, you need real data: implicaions for others, relexivity. Role of bias or conceptual baggage: acknowledge research lens that inluences decisions. Perspecives informing process: remember you are socially located person .
