Sir alec jeffries & his team in leicester, english, discovered that certain portions of dna molecule unique to each person. Shortly after, first person, colin pitchfork, convicted using dna evidence after raping & murdering 2 young girls in england. Dna first used in us same year in conviction of florida rapist. Early convictions & exonerations were first in stream & then flood of similar cases, w/ Dna fingerprinting allowing much more precise individualization of victim/suspect & helping exonerate thousands of wrongfully convicted person. Dna is blueprint of life - contains genes determining almost every facet of our lives. While dna analysis is valuable tool, findings do not prove guilt. Dna - genetic code of life, found in nucleus of almost every cell in our bodies.
