All deaths investigated (unless death occurs under doctor"s care of known terminal disease) Ex: elderly person who is known that he will eventually die due to cancer. All homicides will be investigated but also unrelated to homicide. Ex: man dieing from toxic exposure from work, know for future to not use that toxic, etc. Can contact whos the victim related to, etc. Can be dead by the death scene but in some cases would be moved. Cannot be accurately determined but have evironmental -- to determine close enough. Determined by coroner or medical examiner following an autopsy. Ex: car accident,death may be result of --- Ultimate jurisdiction over the death and they body (first responders are usually po or paramedics) Bring homicide detectives, document scene, and maintain continuity evidence of body. Police may not interfere with the body until coroner inspects it.
