Any work done need to be artistically done in morris" utopia. His workshop had lots of space and natural light in comparison of tight spaces and cheap mass production in a typical workshop in the industrial revolution. Morris did not like craft with machines. Suggested having life of good health, a new idea that industrial revolution did not follow. He was among the first to recognize the human consequences of an economic system predicated on the ceaseless production of consumer desires for artificial necessities (27). Work in 19th century was long and difficult. Factory act of 1850 work was limited to 68 hours a week. Morris was one of the leaders of this march. The soap-works with their smoke-vomiting chimneys were gone; the engineer"s works gone; the lead-works gone; and no sound of riveting and hammering come down the west wind from thorneycroft"s (58).
