They misperceive their bodies & think that it"s an enemy b/c they think that they"re committing an act of heresy. Anorexic: a person with anorexia = flesh is heretic : heretic: something that goes against the norm. They think that they are committing a sin by being fat having excess fat, having flesh is against the rules it"s illegal. In the poem, the speaker wants to burn her body & cleanse herself. She"s on both sides, she"s doing the burning & she"s the one being burned.
