Sept. 29 lecture #7 things are like other things anorexia. Anorexia: condition marked by emaciation, etc. , in which loss of appetite results from severe emotional disturbance. They misperceive they"re bodies & what it should look like. To them, weight becomes a sin, so they intentionally & unintentionally starve themselves b/c something else is in control of the body. They misperceive their bodies & think that it"s an enemy b/c they think that they"re committing an act of heresy. Anorexic: a person with anorexia = flesh is heretic : heretic: something that goes against the norm. They think that they are committing a sin by being fat having excess fat, having flesh is against the rules it"s illegal. In the poem, the speaker wants to burn her body & cleanse herself. She"s on both sides, she"s doing the burning & she"s the one being burned.
