Unfamiliar, strange, unsettling, peculiar, uncomfortable, creepy or out of joint . Strange lurking at the heart of the familiar or something familiar at the heart of the strange. They realize they are not considered normal; rather, vulnerable, undesirable creatures. Misrecognition, doesn"t read song properly, thinks it"s a song about wanting a baby not about a baby wanting her. Student to have a capacity for empathy and love, rather than expendable as society sees them. None of the women in the school will bear children, they are not equal to other humans, don"t have that right. Madame sobs because she knows dream will never come true for students: kathy"s doubleness over comes her. Setting: hailsham- secluded boarding school in near present, alternate, parallel society (late 1990s, uncanny sense of place, familiar, english countryside, unfamiliar- cloning school, real and fantasy place and time.
