Interior plains: flat topography, rich in petroleum resources of western sedimentary basin, peace river country, largest area of cropland. Two climatic zones: pacific, most temperate climate in canada, heavy orthographic precipitation, cordillera, consists of microclimates influenced by changes in elevation, latitude, topography, and distance from pacific ocean to rocky mountains. Diverse vegetation zones shaped by rainfall and elevation.
