Document Summary

Oviducts - moves eggs ad normal site of fertilization. Uterus - normal site of embryo implantation and fetal development. Cervix - opening to uterus which can dilate during childbirth. 1): after fertilization, second polar body made from secondary oocyte after meiosis 2, all progenitor cells become haploid cells. Hormonal control of ovaries: similarity to negative feedback mechanism that works in males, though in females it works following a monthly cycle and the ovaries make progesterone and estrogen rather than testosterone and inhibin. Ovarian cycle: formation and release of an immature egg (secondary oocyte), controlled by gnrh from hypothalamus (anterior pituitary secretes gonadotropic hormones: follicle stimulation hormone fsh and luteinizing hormone lh). Lh promotes the development of the corpus luteum that functions in secreting progesterone. If pregnancy does not occur, then menstruation begins. If egg not fertilized the corpus luteum naturally regressed the endometrium breaks down and cycle begins again.
