Hsci 431 lecture 8: reproductive health & hiv. Loutfy 2012 (high prevalence of unintended pregnancies in hiv+ women of reproductive age in. Significant correlates of unintended pregnancies were marital status & never having given birth. Pregnancy planning, family planning and contraception discussion should be part of the standard discussion with all hiv+ women and probably also men. Women a large and heterogenous group: female sex workers are approx 14x more likely to be infected than other women, 20 countries, pooled hiv preva among idu women was 13% compared to 9% men. Globally: higher proportion of 15-24 year olds for new infections. Sub-saharan africa 2013: highest among 25-49 (350 000 new), then 15-24 (300 000 new) then <15 (100 000) before 50+ (50 000) females. 880 million adolescent girls and young women aged 15-24 years. Despite making up 12% of the world"s popln, often left without voice or control of own bodies.
