Document Summary
The languages of europe and india are all related. The only non indo-european languages in europe are hungarian, finnish, estonian, karelian (finno-ugric family), Sir william jones and his contribution to the understanding of the relationships among indo-european languages (1786). Only 140 of the modern world"s 6880 tongues belong to this family, but their importance is far out of proportion to their numbers. English spanish russian one uno odin ( odin ) two dos dva ( dva ) three tres trie ( tri ) The commonalities among languages belonging to the same family are not coincidental. Indo-european or proto-indo-european language (pie) was reconstructed. This reconstruction was based on the knowledge we have of the daughter languages. It"s important to exclude words that may have been borrowed and are therefore not part of a common inheritance. Many words in related languages are not from the same origin in a parent language. Some of them arise from the slang of the original language.
