An organization of like-minded individuals who seek to influence policy through litigation or legislation. A national organization founded in 1964 to promote respect for and observance of fundamental human rights and civil liberties (ccla. org/about-us/). Ccla has been active in legislatures and courts as well as in organizing rallies and educational programs. Groups look to litigate because they are unable to penetrate other branches of government litigation when all else fails and they are unable to achieve their policy objectives thru more traditional routes such as the legislature. Articles in law reviews designed to influence the thinking of justices on a particular legal issues. Interest groups use this strategy to build credibility and support for their position. Project (wrp) has made extensive use of legal writing to advance its positions. Efforts at changing policy through the use of carefully selected cases with favourable facts for the group pursuing the litigation.
