Galileo 1610 1st scientific treatise political instability: 30 years war 1618 1648. Its conclusion began the state system: ie: english civil war 1642-46, rebellion in scotland 1638, parliament charles i 1629 and 1640 } dissolved parliament, cromwell 1653. Hobbes suggested that if you don"t believe in god, you would get killed. But he had to be very careful regarding this. 1607 first colony established in the new world jamestown. 1608 quebec city: first slave to canada. 1583 english claim st. john"s nb: slavery and colonies financed the wars, we know during this period of colonization to the new world, hobbes would know of it. Hobbes" work is clinical, targeted, and critical. Hobbes is much more aggressive: main targets aristotle (christianized) French thinker representing a school of political thought who believes that we can know non-trivial things about the world without experience. All previous thinkers are wrong because their foundation is wrong.
