People are always in conflict, controlled by inner forces that start in infancy. Dynamic unconscious contains information about the way we were brought up. Drives (to have sex, to be aggressive) ruled by the pleasure principle influence behavior. People are basically good, and motivated toward growth and self-actualization. Piaget: kids were not like adults, they went through developmental stages. Culture- transmission of culture is impacting the individual as well. Individualism and collectivism- importance of recognizing culture as well.
